Regenerative Drive Installation - A Feasibility Study

Jurandir Primo, PE

This course is a basic introduction for Regenerative Drives, a section of technology that deals with control engineering that applies and develops techniques for civil and mechanical industrial processes. Conceptually, a regenerative drive is a type of electric motor that is designed to recapture energy that is usually lost as heat in other electric motors. This energy is then used to recharge the battery or power the electric motor. This makes the electric motor more efficient and helps to reduce the amount of energy that is wasted. When the motor operates in one of these two modes, a regenerative drive can take the electrical energy generated by the motor and feed it back to the AC power source or to a common bus that supplies two or more drives. A common bus provides additional energy savings in that the power is only converted from AC to DC one time.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
